This blog entry is mainly someone elses... as I've spotted this on the web (and it's not me). It's from Plump Pigeon who writes the following in her blog, Plump Purple Pigeon Post. And no, I don't know who G or Neil is (but can hazard a guess)...
''The Dream'' is for me and the G to tour the UK in a camper van. More specifically, a purple vintage VW camper van, you know the sort.Anyway, while we have been at uni, it was really out of the question, as over each summer we have had projects to do, so it has been consigned to one of those things that you want to do 'in the future'. Problem is, the future can quickly become the present and past, and you still haven't done whatever is is that you wanted to do. So, with the demise of Neil, and Uni almost over, I have started seriously looking into buying a VW camper. Drawbacks of this are that they are about 40 years old, most need restoration, and there is a huge demand for them. I have seen a couple that i like on eBay (not the best place to buy one, but they easiest place to start looking) including one that is turquoise with black tiger stripes. Fab or what???? Bet the neighbours would love that parked outside! I could easily find a cheaper type of camper van, that is younger and healthier, but they are all either ugly, or have no personality. Those white camper types that look like a caravan with a cab are just awful. Anyway, you dont get the hippy feel with them!
At first, the rents went along with it, thinking i was joking, but now they know im serious, they are strangely supportive. Think its to do with the fact that my mum wanted one when she was my age, and she may be planning to hijack it for a break or two! Trouble is, i am in two minds about the whole thing. On one hand, i am really into the idea, and would love to do the whole thing, would love to own the van, and know i would have tons of fun on the UK tour. On the other hand, I really want to save up for my future, my jewellery business, and ultimately, a house. A VW would pretty much wipe out all my savings, and so i wouldnt actually be able to do the summer tour for a year or so cuz i wouldnt have any money to do it with! Also, i am reluctant to by another car since losing Neil, as i am enjoying not having to worry about petrol, Tax, Insurance and MOT bills. Thats another thing, i imagine that with such an old van, every MOT is going to fail, and the bill will be huge to fix it. It was getting to the point with Neil (a ten year old car) where every yearly MOT cost about £100 to put all his faults right. Dread to think what it would be like for a VW van. Though a lot of them have had new engines put in. But, not being a car person, I can in no way judge the cost of it all, no matter how amazing the trips in it would be.
So there we have it. A few pros, and lots of cons. Just gotta decide what i want to do! Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Hey camper van girl,
There is a young lad on the Bridgend Industrial estate, Bridgend who customizes camper vans. He makes a business out of it. I am annoyed with myself because I used to have his business card I found out about him a few years ago I assume he is still doing it.
Good luck with your dream.
