Excited to read that Volkswagen is rolling back the years with a retro range of merchandise to mark the 60th anniversary of the camper van.
Apparently it includes clothing, keyrings, MP3 accessories and badges. The downside is you have to visit a VW dealer for details. Teh temptation to buy something other than a trinket will be SO great.....! (Yes, I know I can't afford one)

I must have been bored or something but was (very briefly) watching the Caravan channel last night. Was quite interested in a motorhome they were showcasing, a Fiat. Quite compact. Very luxurious and comfy interior. But you know.. it wasn't a VW and it just wasn't me. Two out of ten for trying though.

I spotted it in luscious Liam's flat (like him, but not the accent). His girlfriend Maria may have been telling him she was up the duff (again) and he was probably still thinking about Carla but all I wanted him to do was move out of the way so I could have a good look at the camper van! Sad or what!

Bought a little knick-knack at a local charity shop.... a brand new VW camper van fridge magnet. A bargain at only a quid! New stuff in charity shops can be a real bargain - and they're often exactly the same stuff as you can buy in boutique style places.

** Spotted this website...haven't had a good look around it yet, but if you're lucky enough to have a westfalia... you may know of it already.

Not so many camper vans around now... though the lovely red one has reappeared in the Danescourt cul-de-sac, visible from the train in the mornings. Spotted a nice yellow one in the retail car park while having a birthday lunch with my not-so-little son... (6ft2" at 15!)

Read in this week's Sunday Times that Helen Baxendale (from Cold Feet and Friends) is a fan, and drives her 80s VW camper van all the time... she was in the money section.. and says it's her best investment:

The property financially has been my best investment, but other than that I would probably have to say my 1980s VW camper van. I bought it six years ago for £7,000 and it’s probably still worth this much. Camper vans tend not to lose their value as quickly as cars, so it was an excellent buy.

We’ve added to it over the years, though - we have put in a new passenger seat and had the whole interior renovated.

We take most of our holidays in it as well so it’s been hugely beneficial for us as a family. I also use it as my main car, not that I drive very much, but I sometimes drive up to the swimming pool - it’s not that awkward to park once you get used to it.

After reading his comment I took another look at Camper Van Crisis, the TV programme I'd spotted. Nigel Isted's accounts of restoring a camper is a bit out of date now, but still worth a look

I've been spotting campers all over the TV lately. Jamie (pukka tukka) Oliver has one (the one he took to Italy) lurking in the background in the outside shots of his latest TV Show: Jamie at home (or whatever it's called). I also spotted some great ones in a film: Almost Famous, set in the 60s. No pix of the campers but you can't have everything!
