Get thee to a dealer!

Excited to read that Volkswagen is rolling back the years with a retro range of merchandise to mark the 60th anniversary of the camper van.

Going crackers over Corrie!

I'm a big fan of Coronation Street so I thought it would take something pretty big for me to get distracted by the goings-on of my mates in Weatherfield. In fact all it took was an ornamental camper van!

Making waves... on the radio

Was out shopping in Cardiff city centre this lunchtime and stopped to admire a lovely lime green camper. Oh, and there was a band playing too.

Hats off to Anita (RIP)

I've always rather liked the Body Shop, and while I'd known for some time that founder Anita Roddick was in poor health, her death was still a surprise.

But she knew how to go out in style if this report is anything to go by - her hearse was a vintage camper van! Respect!

Back from me hols

Been away for a few weeks.... and had an eyeful of beautiful VW campers on the way! There are some very, very lucky people out there who are the proud owners of some very beautiful campers.

Those naughty boys from Top Gear have been getting the authorities all hot and bothered with their latest antics.

Bug Jam

Of course, I live no where near Northants, but if I did (and if the whole of middle England wasn't under water) I'd go and indulge my passion at the Bug Jam.

If you went tell me what it was like! Am I too old as a middle-ager?

Close to home

Have spotted yet another gorgeous camper, this time much closer to home. In fact it's only about a 10 min walk from the house!

Prince slums it in camper van

Well, if it's good enough for our future king...

Britain's Prince William is reportedly set to attend this weekend's Glastonbury festival.

The future king, who celebrated his 25th birthday yesterday, is planning on flying himself and four friends to the Somerset site in a private helicopter.

However, unlike the other 170,000 festival goers, William, who is a trained pilot, will not be staying in a tent and has instead booked into an upmarket camper van.

A source told Britain's Daily Star newspaper: "As well as booking a very swanky camper van, they've already sorted out loads of booze which will be waiting for them, and they're planning to use a luxury barbecue too.

Bard on the bus

This is great! Here's a Times report on a touring production of The Bard's Romeo and Juliet:

A battered old VW camper van was lowered into Shakespeare’s Globe theatre yesterday to launch its first touring production in 400 years. Eight actors from the Globe will travel around the country performing Romeo and Juliet – with the light blue van doubling as a set.

Ain't nothing like the real thing...

It's a shame that the online article doesn't show the picture, but I did see it, in this weekend's Observer.

There's no getting away from it that modern-day campers are probably great - but HAVE NO PERSONALITY.

And so says this camper.... when trying out a £35K+ new VW. Click here to read in full.

Nice little earner for Jamie

Fame, money but no longer with a camper van! Has Jamie Oliver lost his senses?!!

CELEBRITY chef Jamie Oliver sold the Volkswagen camper van he drove around Italy for one of his TV cookery shows for £41,500 yesterday. It had attracted interest from all over the world.

The 1959 Samba had a 2.4litre engine and many gadgets. Nick Wiles, of car auctioneers COYS, said: "This was any Volkswagen camper van enthusiast's dream, coupled with a touch of fame."

M&S get a little help... from a camper van

We all know that Marks has got back its spark with a little help from Twiggy et al, but now it seems it's jumping on the bandwagon (or should that be VW camper-wagon) with its latest advertising campaign.

Yellow camper wounded

I've been waving to it religiously, so there was no way I wouldn't spot the damage. The yellow camper in the village is wounded.

Man's best friend..

Would you spend four grand to rescue a dog? This family from Wales did. They fell in love with a dog on holiday and decided to rescue it - driving all the way back to Greece in a camper van. Man's best friend comes at a price for this batty (but loving) family!

Sing, sing a song

How cool is this? A bunch of students have written a song... all about camper vans! Haven't a clue if it's any good or not, but hats off to them for choosing a wicked topic.... Why write a song about anything else, when you can write about camper vans?

Celebrity campers

It's cool to have a camper. We've had Jamie Oliver doing his bit in Italy in a camper (that was always breaking down)..

'In his clapped-out camper van, Jamie travels the country in search of its gastronomic heart, and cooks with people passionate about food.'

And now you can feast your eyes on the Orange star of Crash Test Dummies. That's the camper, not the perma-tanned presenters.

A camper for Charlotte and Gavin?

Now that Charlotte church has confirmed she's 'up the daff' as The Sun so sweetly put it, do you think she'll be looking for a lovely camper for her and Gavin to go on hols to Pembrokeshire with? She'd look great behind the wheel with a mini-Charl or Gav in tow.. and they're so family friendly! Anyway, congrats Charl and Gav! Camper or no camper. A caravan by any other name...?

Interesting. In an article on the Scotsman website about caravanning, it says:

If you're under 35 - actually, make that 55 - perhaps full-on caravanning is still a little bit staid for you. Do what surfer dudes do and get yourself a beat-up VW camper van instead. It's basically a caravan by any other name, but has rather more street cred.

Have a butchers and read the article for yourself - the important bit is tagged on at the end.

Are we VW camper fans just poseurs? Answers, please!

PS. I would so hate to have a towing caravan - I just couldn't cope with the driving and manoevering. A VW camper is (I'm just guessing here) compact and much more manageable. I've stayed in static caravans (mobile homes) - and enjoyed the experience. Perhaps the French sunshine, wine and good food had a little something to do with it....

Hitching a ride

Well, not exactly. But if I were to ever to get hitched (again) I'd follow this couple's example.

Vroom, vroom!

Time for another pic:

The blue, larger one is actually a pottery money box, the other two are made of metal. And, in case you're wondering, the Madonna pic is a Christmas card!

The cheek of some people! Read this story of how a bloke traded up from a beer to - you've guessed it - a camper van! Wonderful!!

Camper vision

I was at the hairdressers on Saturday, having my hair done (not suprisingly!) and, as you do, I was flicking through some mags, waiting for the timer to go off. (Boys, you won't understand, girls, you know where I'm coming from).

There was a smart looking mag called Icons, never heard of it before, but glossy and expensive looking. And there was a fashion piece with a lovely double spread of two camper vans! Ok, so there was a tall, leggy blonde in weird, unwearable clothing, too. But I only had eyes for the vans. I've got it bad.

Don't watch that, watch this!

Have set the reminder on my TV for 19.30 to watch Jamie Owen's Welsh Journeys tonight. As Auntie says: Jamie climbs aboard an antique VW camper for a weekend of sunshine and surf to celebrate 50 years since Gower was declared Britain's first area of outstanding natural beauty.

Our beautiful country AND a camper van! Swoon....
